Thumbnail Reviews

Groovesect was OK on Sat."Uganda" was the conga player. The rest of the band was under 40.They sounded similar to the Greyhounds. The front man played sax and flute.Hilite was the bass player totally jamming out with a capo.
Sunday was Kinky from Monterey Mexico at The Parish. Most of the audience was Mexican nationals, who went ape-shit crazy for the band. They finished with a wicked cover of Wall of VooDoo`s "Mexican Radio"
Monday I got on the guest list for a party at Club Deville. My houseguests from last year,The Golden Dogs, from Toronto, played a ripping set hi-lited by an awesome cover of Wing`s 1985.Sir Paul never rocked like this!
Tuesday we saw The Raveonettes at a private party for American Spirit.Anyone need some smokes? They set the bar really high with their shimmering indie pop sound. Then off to Emos for the end of The Blakes from Seattle.Black leather rock. White Denim closed out the show. Now we can sleep in and have lunch instead of seeing them at 1 Wed

Roland`s war on day parties is a total failure, with 84 listed on Saturday alone. There are some new party nodes this year.Manor Rd has events at Clementine coffee,The Vortex Theater,Salvage Vanguard theater,Rancho Relaxo(house party)on Merrie Lynn,as well as Quack`s on E 38th.

Downtown is of course ground zero for all the tourists. You can`t swing a cat without hitting a showcase, with more being added daily in any remaining space.Waterloo Park has a big free show all day Saturday with lots of big name bands and comedians.
Auditorium Shores has a particularly lame line up this year, headlined by Spoon Thur,Bodeans Fri,Ice Cube Sat.Not worth fighting the crowds.
Also good line ups at Waterloo Records,Cheapo Discs, and a party Friday at the Counter Cafe parking lot next to Waterloo.
Campus area has MGMT at Urban Outfitters on Thurs, also day parties at Cream Vintage,Antone`s Record`s ,Sonny`s Vintage, and the old Plasma center next to Ruby`s BBQ(it`s organic!)on W 29th.
