Wed Showcase Picks

Not much on the radar tonite. Most of the locals will be at the Music Awards,so hopefully it won`t be too crowded yet.REM at Stubbs is the big headliner. They go on at midnite.Brad says you may want to go early to get in
Start off at 8 with local soul man Black Joe Lewis at Emo`s outside.Or check out Jen`s friends The Story Of at Smokin Music,5th & Trinity
At 9 its Navruz from Uzbekistan at The Copa.I have seen them before and its very different. They play large tamborine-like drums that are sensitive to the touch. They also have an 8 foot long trumpet they break out sometimes.Very ancient central Asian music.
At 10 at The Copa is the Intuitive Music Orchestra form Moscow. They play traditional Slavic music on old, obscure instuments.Hold me back!
At 11 its time to punk out with The Slits at Elysium.Or try indie-pop at Emos outside with Be Your Own Pet
At midnite,if you can`t get into REM,The Shootin Pains, featuring ex-Dicks Pat and Bufx playing bent country music are at Elysium. That puts you there for the Dicks at 1AM.Or go see my house guests,Johnny Foreigner,at The Dirty Dog on 6th next to Coyote Ugly.
My pick for 1AM is The Aggrolites,a ska/reggae band from LA at Flamingo Cantina.Or punk out with Die! Die! Die! from New Zealand at Wave or grunge out with Gorch Foch at Room 710
If you don` have a wristband or don`t want to move around there is Mexican Nite at Opal Devine`s on W 6th.Its in a tent in the parking lot. Those Mexican bands rock out!!!Ora-le!!
